MarediModa: The Swimwear Fabric Fair Redefining Sustainability

Ever since I started Zigi Swim, I’ve been fascinated with the behind the scenes world of swimwear: the fabrics, the craft, the ethos. One event that always stands out for me is MarediModa, the international trade fair dedicated to beachwear, underwear and athleisure fabrics and accessories.

What is MarediModa?

Held in Cannes (and now also in Miami) each year, MarediModa brings together premium swimwear fabric houses, designers, and accessory innovators, all under one roof. Think cutting-edge prints, high-performance recycled fibres, sustainable stretch yarns and an entire ecosystem built around what we wear by the sea.

The fair has become the reference for swimwear supply chains that want quality, traceability and style.

Why it matters for Zigi Swim

As a swimwear brand that stands for small batch, sustainable design, MarediModa speaks to me in two key ways:

  • Innovation meets responsibility. At the 2023 edition, MarediModa emphasised traceability and sustainable fibres — highlighting how high-end swimwear is evolving beyond fast trends into a more mindful era.

  • The story behind the swimsuits. The fabric your bikini is made of, the print you choose, the hardware you use, these things matter. MarediModa shows where the future of swimwear is going: better materials, smarter production and richer narratives.

What I learned & how it's inspiring our next collection

Here are three key take-aways I brought back to Zigi Swim:

  1. Material matters more than ever. From high-tech stretch yarns (like the ones showcased with ROICA™ at MarediModa) to recycled fibres, the emphasis on performance + planet is clear.

  2. Design is deeply linked to context. The textures, prints and even trims shown at the fair reminded me that swimwear lives around so much around nature and its motions - blowing sand, sea spray, moving beams of sunlight. For our next drop I’m prioritising premium fabrics that move with you, that feel fluid, secure, and built for the real summer.

  3. Sustainability is non-negotiable. Exhibitors at MarediModa are increasingly required to have transparent supply chains, eco-certifications and ethical practices. This reinforces why we at Zigi Swim choose small-batch production and meaningful partnerships.

What it means for you as a Zigi Girl

When you choose Zigi Swim, you’re choosing more than a bikini. You’re choosing something that’s part of a movement: swimwear that respects the sea and also gives back to it, a constant cycle.

2026 TREND FORECASTS:

Trend Insight 1: Elevated Sustainability in Fabric & Finish

From the show, the emphasis isn’t just on recycled fibres, but on premium performance, traceability and finish. For example, new fabrics that are GRS-certified, OEKO-TEX compliant, and designed to carry through more than one season.
At Zigi we promote exactly this, swimwear designed and made in London, that's made to last. We want to show how by investing in one amazing piece that's made from premium kind-to-planet fabrics and has incredible longevity is more sustainable than fast fashion.

Trend Insight 2: Natural Elemental Colour Stories

MarediModa’s trend books reference colour palettes inspired by earth, fire, dust, water flows, nature’s textures. We expect to be seeing earthy tones next season like burgandies, teracotta, khakis and more of the chocolate browns we all love.

Trend Insight 3: Texture and Sheerness with Purpose

The event highlighted fabrics that feel textured, tactile, layered, or sheer, but done in a way that still holds up for swimwear and beachwear. For instance: lightweight, high-performance stretch fabrics with a subtle sheen or soapy matte finish. A route we are looking at going down with next season's sarong arrival!

Trend Insight 4: Movement, Freedom & Functionality

One recurring theme: swimwear and beachwear are less about static fashion and more about motion, life, sun, sea, being in it rather than just looking at it. The fair’s trend forum mentioned silhouettes and details built for movement and beach environment. That's why we are so passionate about making our swimwear adjustable so it morphs to you and moves the way you need it to so you feel confident and free.

Trend Insight 5: Editorial Minimalism Meets Resort Lifestyle

Even though the fair covers bold prints and flamboyant textures, a strong counter-trend is quiet luxury: minimal design, grounded palette, intentional pieces designed to last.
Zigi pieces aren’t just a flavour of the season, but investment pieces that will be part of your timeless resort wardrobe for years to come.

To Sum it Up!

MarediModa is more than just a trade fair, it’s a peek into what good swimwear can be: beautiful, sustainable, and forward-thinking. It's crazy how personalised swimwear can get, the world is your oyster when it come to designing sustainably now. Some price tags on luxury swimwear seem crazily overpriced, but now after being to my first swimwear trade fair I'm not surprised at all. To offer the best of the best product in the most premium, sustainable, longest lasting fabrics, you get what you pay for.
